About the Mark Twain
St. Joseph Hospital Foundation

Celebrating 27 Years of Service to the Community

Our Foundation was formed in 1984 when a handful of dedicated people recognized the need for financial assistance to purchase new equipment and technologies for MTSJH.

The Foundation has assisted in funding essential improvements to hospital facilities and equipment by targeting its work to achieve specific goals. The following are examples:

  • 1987 – Supported the hospital’s first mammography system. Today over 3,500 patients a year have mammograms at MTSJ.
  • 1989 – Dedication of the Ray and Isabel Neilsen Birthing Center, supported by donations from Foundation.
  • 1997 – Capital Building Campaign raised over $1 Million in support of the only rural hospital building project in California that year.
  • 1998 – Paid coordinator was hired to assist volunteer efforts.
  • 2002 – Donated over $200,000 towards the new Community Health Education Center.
  • 2002 – A new Nuclear Medicine Camera was installed, supported by donations from Foundation.
  • 2003 – Supported the purchase of new hospital beds, heart monitors and defibrillators.
  • 2007 – Completed campaign in support of Ultra CT Scanner, raising over $325,000. Hired an Executive Director to lead future fundraising efforts.
  • 2008 – Start of campaign in support of Women’s Health to purchase digital mammography technology.
  • 2009 – Completed campaign for Digital mammography.

In 2011 the Foundation is celebrating its 27th Anniversary.
